Thoughts for today
Here’s an alternative text just for all you cynics out there who hate email circulars about divine happiness and growth:
Thoughts for today
Maybe we need to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one so that when we finally meet the right person we know how to be grateful for the gift: and when we’ve finally pissed them off enough so much that they leave, we are fully aware of what dickheads we truly are.
When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we don’t see the one which has just been opened for us: nor the bus load of people who just shot past us and got their first and slammed it shut firmly behind them right in our faces.
The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on the porch and swing with and never need to say a word to and walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you ever had: and when you return to your grotty bed-sit somewhere, feel like a failure knowing you will never have a porch of your own, let alone a swing.
It’s true we don’t know what we’ve got until we loose it, but it’s also true we don’t know what we are missing until it arrives: normally in the form of someone telling us exactly what it is they have got and we know, we are never going to get.
Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they’ll love you back! Just wait for it to grow in their hearts but if it doesn’t be content it grew in yours: and that you managed to get some of your records back and wont have to talk to their parents ever again.
It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone: and the arsehole who fucked up your life when you were young and naïve.
Don’t go for looks; they can be deceptive. Don’t go for wealth, even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Find the one who makes your heart smile: and then see how long you can put up with all that grinning before you finally put an ice-pick in their foreheads.
There are moments in your life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real: only to find that they were beside you all the time are in fact the fat, drunken bastard that you married 13 years ago.
Dream what you want to dream, go where you want to go, be what you want to be because you only have one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do: unless of course you live in the developing world, in which case, you best stop reading this and get back to work.
May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy: and enough cash to get the fuck away from everybody.
Always put yourself in another’s shoes. If you feel they hurt you, they probably hurt the other person too: so give them back their shoes, tell them to get the right size next time and learn to stop bothering strangers like that.
The happiest of people don’t necessarily have the best of everything, they just make the most of everything that comes along their way: and then make dam sure no one else can get their grubby hands on it.
Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched and those who have tried; for only they can appreciate the importance of the people who have touched their lives: unless of course they’ve been imprisoned by a murderous psychotic inside a dark cave for the last twenty years.
Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss and ends with a tear: and in between a crap sex life, never ending arguments, financial ruin and two kids who are just waiting for you to die so they can sell your house and everything you own and then tell everyone how shit you were to them.
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling; live your life so that when you die, you are the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying: and then fart at them for all the shit they gave you.
Share this message with everyone that means something to you, to those who have touched your life, to those who made you smile when you really needed it, to those that have made you see the brighter side of things when you were really down, to those who you want to let know how much you appreciate their friendship: and make sure that they give you that fucking fiver back you lent them when you were richer than them anyway but just didn’t let on…………….
